My Degree Counts

The Center’s My Degree Counts initiative raises public awareness on the importance of post-secondary degree completion and training. What began as a regional public engagement campaign to increase 2 and 4-yr. college attainment rates, now focuses on increasing 2-year degrees and certificates. Our subcommittees have promoted best practices for successful transition into higher education and degree completion by providing financial education and support mechanisms to part-time and minority students. We have also engaged local business and degree granting institutions to ensure that working adults will have the support necessary to pursue a higher education. We have worked with the City of Houston and Galveston to host a series of college fairs, offering city employees the opportunity to learn more about degree programs available to adults. We are also Steering Committee members of the Houston FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Initiative, online as houstonFAFSA.org.
